Samsung PN51E450 Cost-Cutting Strategy Pays Off
That Samsung were cheap and affordable, we knew that. That Samsung offered decent quality for the price you pay, we knew that also. That Samsung are starting to react to your comments is a pleasant surprise. And they have done that by improving the things we have been harping about for months. But, at least for now, it appears that Samsung have seen the light! We all know not to expect the very best from Samsung, when it comes to design or optimal quality but the Samsung PN51E450 certainly comes closer to perfection from the Korean powerhouse than we would have ever imagined. We’re proud of you comrades. Keep up the solid work! The Samsung PN51E450 51” 720p 600Hz Plasma HDTV does not have any rivals in the department of bargain price for value comparison. The color saturation levels on this monster is superb, whilst the depth of black and shadow detail are good enough to warrant a mention, but nothing to rave home about. It also uses less power than most of its plasma rivals, which has to be another plus.
Of course, for the Samsung PN51E450 best buy price of around $650, there has to be something not so good to say about the PN51E450. Even in normally lit rooms, without the brightness that, so often, hijacks decent quality picture and colors, the Samsung PN51E450 TV, does not perform that great. Although 720p, we did expect it to adapt well with 1080p stuff, which sadly, it didn’t and the accuracy in color is kind of poor.
When you fill I the blanks and see what else is left to contemplate, when referring to a plasma HDTV, you will find that the PN51E450 gives its best and even comes out with a few strengths of its own. 10 out of 10 for effort, that’s for sure!
Is Lower Resolution All That Bad?
This question is open to debate in plasma TV’s. In the case of the PN51E450, the 720p does suffer when you decide to playback films suited for higher resolutions. As we mentioned earlier, the E450 doesn’t do this job that well. But if you are one of those people who, either love the environment to pieces or are simply worried about the cost of your energy bill, this set will not disappoint you at all and you feel that it is doing its part to save our planet. When you hear all the tales about what a plasma TV did to some families’ savings, in the long run, you would have wished you had heard about Samsung! On a Default setting, expect to pay roughly $22 a year, which works out at a yearly output of just over 99 watts.
Let’s Have a Closer Look at Color Accuracy
With color accuracy a slight concern for those of you who like perfect women, perfect beer and perfect everything, we tested the TV to check out what all the fuss is about. The Before Average Color Temperature, Red Luminance Error, Green Luminance Error, 1080p/24 cadence (IAL) and 1080i De-Interlacing (film) all failed quite badly and none of the other ratings went even close to Excellent. But we did mention this before, superlative adjectives, when it comes to Samsung, can be seen in the price tag and not much anywhere else.
If you are wondering what you can connect to your TV you need to know that it offers 2 HDMI ports, 1 USB, 1 Composite/Component input and 1 Digital Optical output. Also, if you are struggling to find the right balance for color and picture quality, click here for guidance.
